Learn More About Me and My Psychotherapy & Couples Counseling Practice
Turning to Sally Hackman PhD, MFT - Relationship Counseling is the right choice for people who need the expertise of a professional psychotherapist or an experienced child therapist. Whether I am guiding a client through the difficult process of coping with the loss of a loved one or having a couples counseling session, I am always driven by my passion for helping others. It turned out to be a lifelong passion for me, and I have spent the better part of my life doing so in a variety of ways and with people of all ages. Working in Mar Vista, CA, I am an experienced psychotherapist and couples counseling expert, but that has not always been the case.
It all started when my love of children guided me to work in the field of education. As an elementary school teacher, I was in a position to help children and their families with various issues. My experience as a teacher of children with special needs at the Kennedy Child Study Center at Saint John’s Hospital and the time I spent in volunteer work at Thalians Community Mental Health Center and Cedars Sinai Outpatient Cancer Center, helped me develop an intense desire to deepen my understanding of people and further my knowledge in order to help others more comprehensively.
Beyond intellectual development, my background in education and the deep understanding I had of how people develop, think, and learn proved both invaluable to my work as a psychotherapist and child therapist.
Before long, I returned to school and started pursuing my first love – that of psychology. There, I delved deep into the science of understanding the psychological and developmental needs of adults and children. I immediately discovered that I had a great passion for this type of work, and once I got my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and my Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology, I went on to work in private, community, and educational settings. This also allowed me to satisfy my interest in medicine because I was often helping people cope with the deep emotional impact of illness.
I currently teach at the UCLA Medical School, and this has further expanded my medical knowledge, allowing me to gain further knowledge on the matter of dealing with illness. Additionally, teaching medical students gives me the opportunity to shine a light on the psychological aspects of medical illness and doctoring.
My enthusiasm for helping others to thrive in their lives and the relationships they have with their parents, children, colleagues, friends, or romantic interest, continues unabated to this very day. If you are located in Mar Vista, CA, and you need assistance with such matters, Sally Hackman PhD, MFT - Relationship Counseling can very well be the solution for your situation.
